Autumn of 2004
Everyone was excited to hear the news that Scott and Lisa conceived. We dreamed of what she would look like, what her personality would be, and what activities we would share with her.

However, the diagnosis that she had a combination of the most severe heart defects, interrupted those dreams.

Several people faithfully prayed for a miracle for Melissa...that she would be healed and live a long, fulfilled life. God did perform a miracle. He gave us love and comfort and gave Melissa a lifetime. A lifetime is time spent between birth and death.

Melissa's four hours of life were spent with her family. In that time her father gave her a bath and shampooed her hair. Then he applied her first diaper and dressed her in a pink and white nightgown. He hugged and kissed Melissa then placed her in her mother's arms.

As they admired her, both Scott and Lisa praised God and thanked Him for Melissa, their precious gift. They hugged and kissed her and told her how much they loved her. They prayed with her, read to her, and sang to her. Melissa also listened to the reading of Psalm 23 and posed for photos with her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and Pastor Tim Burns.

Melissa touched our hearts and made us aware of many things. We learned about unconditional love. Second, we learned that life can be short: cherish every moment and make it count. Most importantly, through her life, we realized our need for Jesus Christ as our Savior, Comforter and Source of Strength.
